CMMC Compliance Checklist
Seven Stages to CMMC Readiness
The Department of War (DoW) suspended CMMC Phase 2 on July 13, 2026. Self-assessment, SPRS scoring, and DFARS 252.204-7012 obligations did not change, and primes are holding flow-down requirements steady. The CMMC Reform Task Force reports to the DoW CIO in mid-September. Readiness still takes 9 to 12 months. This seven-stage checklist tracks the work from scoping through sustainment.
Checklist Coverage:
- Level determination and scope definition, including enclave and segmentation boundaries
- Documentation of current state, covering compliance scope, CSPs, and ESPs handling CUI
- Gap assessment against 320 control objectives, with POA&M drafting and stakeholder assignment
- Compliance program build-out, from implementation planning through body of evidence
- Sustainment through governance, internal audits, and policy testing
Inside the Download:
- Seven stages with checkbox tasks from first steps through ongoing compliance
- Three field notes on scope reduction, documentation depth, and evidence quality
- A single-page format built for tracking progress across a compliance team
- Perspective from Sera Brynn, trusted authorized CMMC C3PAO, FedRAMP Independent Assessor (3PAO) and GovRAMP 3PAO.
